 NL: Gregory Page is een onverbeterlijke romanticus. Nostalgie is wat hem betreft geen vies woord, en zijn werkdag bestaat bij voorkeur uit dagdromen in het park. De geboren Londenaar woont al sinds zijn tienerjaren in San Diego, waar hij na de nodige avonturen in diverse bands langzaam zijn eigen niche uitwerkte. Nederland is echter zijn tweede thuis.

Gregory’s voorliefde voor jaren ’20 crooners, oude grammofoons en gedeukte hoeden vond hier zo veel weerklank dat hij hier graag, lang en vaak verblijft. Veel mensen kennen hem van zijn optredens bij Vrije Geluiden en Kunststof TV, maar zijn charisma en parels van songs komen bij een liveshow pas echt goed tot hun recht. Hij transporteert je naar een andere wereld, een tijdloos universum waarin het helemaal niet vreemd is om een duet te doen met een denkbeeldige zangeres, of een hartverscheurende ballade af te wisselen met een ode aan het circus.

EN: Gregory Page was born in England, the son of a traveling Armenian singer/songwriter that he would not meet for over 40 years. His Irish mother, Moyra Page, was the lead singer/saxophone player in one of Britain's first all-girl pop bands, The Beat-Chics, that were signed to Decca Records & toured with The Beatles in August 1965. ​ As a boy he was shy, fond of books and pictures, a solitary rambler in the woods & fields. At fourteen he went to America, and for the next 5 years he wrote poetry and learned to play the guitar. During this time he got to know music intimately. James Taylor and Paul Simon were his great loves, but he admired Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake and other sentimental musicians who wrote about the sufferings of the poor and abandoned. ​ In Southern California, he began to doubt himself and his work. A rebuff from a girl he loved was the starting point of his despair. Writing about this wretched world and finding some consolation in his clumsy efforts to represent what he saw and felt, he resolved at twenty-seven, after a period of wandering and depressing uncertainty, to become a songwriter which he thought was his only means of salvation, a solitary and pure activity in which he would be free, responsible for himself alone, and yet might create a work that would give joy and understanding to others.
